Sean and Todd's Vacation Story
IMPORTANT NOTE - This story is now several years old, but is still a very good story. It was written Real Time so it reads as if they are on the trip right now. Also, the E-Mail addresses in the story are no longer valid. I will update them as soon as I can.
See updated notes at the bottom of this page.
These articles chronicle the activities of Sean Franklin and Todd Williams on their summer vacation to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, beginning on June 4, 1995.
Sean is the Manager of Information Systems at Computer Business Services, Inc. in Sheridan, IN. He has worked for CBSI for the last 2-1/2 years, working his way up from computer assembly to his current position. Todd manages the Radio Shack store in Lafayette Square Mall in Indianapolis, IN. He has worked for Radio Shack for about 5 years, and has been managing for the last 3. He now runs the second-largest store in the Indianapolis area. Todd and Sean met when Todd began working for Radio Shack, where Sean worked as a Computer Systems Engineer for 6 years prior to joining CBSI.
This year's trip to Tennessee is the second annual trip for the pair. In July of 1994, they loaded their motorcycles on a home-built trailer, hitched it up to Todd's Ford Ranger, and drove to Arizona for a week's stay. This year, because of the closer distance, they rode the motorcycles directly to their destination.
Sean rides a well-kept 1986 BMW R80, which is fairly loaded with gadgets like heated hand grips and a cigarette lighter (for the phone, of course). Todd's steed is a cherry 1982 Honda V45 Magna, which he acquired after it had been sitting for several years. It is outfitted with leather touring bags for the trip.
Because of the interest CBSI has had in the Internet, and because Sean's roommate, Brent Soper, is CBSI's Vice President of Internet Resources, it was decided that Sean and Todd would chronicle their trip for Brent to post on CBSI's World Wide Web page (URL: http://www.cbsibnet.com/cbsi).
To accomplish this feat in near "Real Time", Sean took his company-issue Canon Innova Book 10 laptop computer, and a Motorola PCMCIA FAX/Modem that plugs into his Motorola MicroTAC Elite Cellular Phone. Each day's story is written on the laptop, converted to a text mail message, and sent to Brent's Internet mailbox ([email protected]) via CompuServe for posting on the Web, and for distribution through CBSI's internal E-mail system.
While on the road, Sean and Todd can be reached via Sean's CompuServe account at 74044,3457 or through the Internet at [email protected]. Back home, Todd can also be reached on Prodigy at AVTC74A, or via Internet at [email protected].
A side note from Brent:
As soon as Sean and Todd get back, and I get some of the pictures, I will attach them to the story. I forgot to send along a digital camera, so we will all just have to wait and see what develops. (grin).
Second Side Note added in 1997 and updated again 2001: As this story is getting dated, the E-Mail addresses have changed for Sean and Todd. Sean is [email protected], and Todd is between ISP's right now. Also, visit Sean's Motorcycle Accessory Company at www.cyclegadgets.com .
