SOLD UPDATES: October 2018: This is by far the biggest update in the last 17 years. I'm moving! Yep, this is still a great house, and I love it, but it's time to make a change. This page will be archived back to "old house" shortly as I build the page for the new house. Stay Tuned.
December 2017: I try to update this every 3 or 4 years. Still here in Elkhart. House is hanging in. In the process of doing a complete interior refresh, getting rid of the 2000's browns and earth tones, and changing to gray's and blacks. It's time for new flooring throughout, and they finally make a flooring product that I actually want, Vinyl Plank. It's what I wanted when I moved originally, but the technology just wasn't there yet. Going to add a shed if I can ever find anyone to build one for me. 1 different dog, now 2 cats and a new human I share the world with live here.
October 2015: Yep, still here. The landscaping has grown.... Other than that, not much has changed. Have a Hot Tub on an expanded patio. Toying with the idea of building something new though. No hurry, just a couple ideas.
January 2012: 10 years. Well 10 years have passed now. It's interesting looking back at moving here. Lots of things have changed, not just with the house, but with us. Different dogs, same birds. Still love the neighborhood here. We have great neighbors. The weather is defiantly better on our 10 year anniversary. I have to say I continue to appreciate the good job that Team Construction did on our house. Had to patch a couple of tiny holes in the chimney flashing about a year ago. That's pretty much it. Did get around to finally completing the painting in the main room. It wasn't as bad painting the stairwell as I thought it was going to be. I think I may dig into my photos and find some pictures of the house when we moved in vs today. Defiantly a different style has developed, not to mention they have invented flat screen TV's. It's a good day for reflection, and it's a good reflection.
March 2007: Seriously, I really am horrible at updates. So, this is going to be no longer a dated thing. It's not really a new house anymore anyway, I mean it's like 5 yeas old now. So, I am fixing the image on this page to something more recent, and taking the words "new" out of most of the text links. Yes, we still do things to the house, both inside and outside. Currently, we are re-painting the living area, and we have already done the master bedroom. The yard is looking great.
May, 2004 - Apparently I suck at updates, so here is the catch up. The basement phase one is complete. I have added a family room, and an office. There is also space for a kitchenette. Jack, my buddy from Perfect Floors hooked me up with some GREAT flooring. Thanks buddy. There are pictures of the basement project in the Photo Gallery. We just this weekend fenced in the back yard for the dogs. They are quite happy about it. Steve, Lance, Jeff, Alan, and Bryan, thanks for the help. It was fun too, well other than the rain the first weekend. My mom came up to help too, but she ended up planting a tree and digging up some new flower beds in my front yard.
November, 2003 - Ok.. so I have not put any recent updates up. So here is the scoop. This Spring & Summer has pretty much just been work in the real world. I have started finishing the basement. So far stage 1 is about 1/4 done. The walls are up and they have drywall on one side. Now that it's cold again, I will be working on that project. Just finished insulating the garage! Now I can actually work on stuff out there during the winter. Did the walls with JM Comfort Therm, and did the blown in stuff in the attic. 9 inches (R30).
January, 2003 - Pictures! Our first major project. Decorating the front office room. We are FULL TILT into winter up here. As I type this, they are predicting a high of 10 degrees tomorrow.
November, 2002 - Just archived all of the building of the house photos here. Have a look. It's been a while with no updates. I guess once it's done, you really don't think about it too much. We have had for the most part no problems at all over the last year. We had 1 toilet spring a small leak, one drywall crack, and a couple of paint touchups. They had to replace the backsplash behind the sink (Forgot to caulk it originally) and that folks.. is it. We do have a full yard now, it grew in nicely over the summer, and the lot to the south of us has a house under construction. The lot to the NORTH of us, which is also wooded, has been bought, and the owner does not plan on building on it. Hooray for us! The next project for this winter is finishing at least one room of the basement. The garage is almost totally insulated now, just need to blow in some insulation in the attic to complete the job.
Original House Info
Planning to move up to Elkhart Indiana within the next few months. She is from there and I have acquired a job at Elkhart.net. We have been house hunting for a couple of months and finally came across this one. The exterior was mostly finished, and the inside is bare drywall. After searching most of that town. We decided that this was the one for us.
December 1, 2001 - PHOTOS Had a nice meeting with the builders. Gave up the purchase agreement and picked out all the fun stuff for the new house. We picked our our cabinet hardware, counter tops, and all that sort of stuff. BOY do we have a mess of stuff to do! We have to pick out all the appliances in the next few days, and schedule the flooring (Decided to have my good friend Jack of PerfectFloors do all the dirty floor work!)
December 2, 2001 - Meeting with Perfect Floors. Gave him a copy of the blueprints to take to the flooring shop to get all picked out. As soon as they get all the measurements and stuff, we will run up there (Tomorrow most likely) and pick out the colors. We are planning on laminate flooring for most of the house, some tile for the kitchens and bath (Heated floor in the master bathroom) and carpet for the master bedroom and the second bedroom.
December 9, 2001 - PHOTOS Floor Day: PerfectFloors installed most of the flooring Saturday and Sunday. Turns out the Tile we picked out is Italian. Oops.. Anyway, it looks beautiful. The digital camera ran out of juice b4 it all got done, but you can see what I have. It's surprising how much stuff you can cram in a 34 foot motor home! The yard has a sprinkling of seed on it. Ya.. that will grow.. But they will just plant it again in the spring if it does not. Yard is at least smooth now. We haven't heard back from the fence people yet. We'll take care of that this week.
December 15, 2001 - PHOTOS - Ok.. Final floor day! Jack and crew came up to finish the stars and the transition pieces for the floors. We were pleasantly surprised to find the trim carpenter had been busy. Our kitchen, and bathroom cabinets are in, as are the interior doors, and some trim molding. Also, SEARS has delivered some of our appliances. The washer, stove, and vent hood. We took our dishwasher up also to have installed.
December 21-25 2001 - Worked on both old and new houses this week. By the way.. If you know anyone that wants a nice house in Broadripple (Indianapolis), let me know!
OLD -- Getting the house in better shape for selling it all the time. This weekend, finished all the base and cove moldings in both the kitchen and main bathroom. Also replaced the Counter Top in the kitchen, along with a new sink and a brand new dishwasher. Also freshened up some paint and various other little projects that just have to be done.
NEW -- Counter tops have been installed. The trim work is for the most part completely done. It's really looking like a house now.
January 4 - 6 -- PHOTOS First Inspection today. The house is almost done. We meet with the supervisor of the project today to go over anything we found that we are not happy with. There was VERY little.. just some bumps and bruises from building. If all goes well, one week we will be in our new house.
January 11, 2002 -- IT IS DONE! Ours! (Well the bank's). Anyway, we closed on the house today. Gosh.. wasn't THAT fun! Sign sign sign.. Anyway.. I have been up here for a week already working at the new job at Elkhart.net. All it good. Now all we have to do is move.
Rest of January, and into Feb 2002 -- PHOTOS The new house is VERY nice. We have moved all of our stuff from the Indianapolis home now, the dogs have adapted and all is well. It WOULD be nice to have something other than a mud pit for a yard, but it will grow in the spring. Elkhart isn't bad. It's a LOT smaller than what I am used to as far as towns go, but so far everything I need is not too far away. There is a Menard's and a Lowe's, so I am happy. Oh ya.. that's the other thing I am missing BROADBAND at home. Back to a 56K modem (UGH). Talked to ATT broadband yesterday and it is looking promising for cable modems in the near future.
March 21,2002 -- GRASS! My yard is starting to grow.. Oh and it's spring.. and it's snowing..
November 10, 2002 -- Wow.. I haven't updated this in a while. I think I am going to archive the "building of the house section" and start a new one.
